Dead Man’s Hand Cocktail

Ingredients
- whiskey - 1.5 ozs.
- orange juice - .75 oz.
- pineapple - .5 oz.
- mango nectar puree - .5 oz.
- lemon juice - .75 oz.
- 'Black Heart' syrup - 1 oz.
- angostura bitters - 1 dash
- Ingredients for Black Heart Syrup:
- water - 2 cups
- white sugar - 2 cups
- blackberries - 1 cup, rinsed and halved
- Luxardo maraschino cherry syrup - to taste
Instructions
- Add whiskey, orange juice, pineapple juice, lemon juice, and mango nectar into a shaker.
- Fill shaker with ice and shake.
- In a fresh rocks or lowball glass, pour Black Heart syrup into the bottom of the glass. Add one dash of angostura bitters.
- Fill the glass with fresh ice.
- Slowly strain the shaken cocktail over the ice, layering the cocktail and giving it a deep red to orange gradient.
- Garnish with a brûléed pair of blackberries or a “Dead Man’s Hand” of miniature playing cards and clothespin.
Procedure for the Black Heart Syrup:
- Add water, sugar, and blackberries into a cooking pot.
- Bring to a simmer over low-medium heat.
- Simmer for 10 minutes, until the blackberries are soft and mushy.
- Remove from heat. Let cool for 5 minutes.
- Strain through a fine mesh strainer into a large (32 oz+) liquid measuring cup.
- Mix in Luxardo cherry syrup at a 1:1 ratio.
